BULL TERRIER TIMES COMPILATION PATRICK’S ROM YARD Boyle's "Dirty Mary" is one of six dogs that have achieved R. O. M. status which have come from the yard of Pat Patrick. "Dirty Mary" has been detailed separately in the "Boyles Line" article contained in this publication; brief details of the remaining five are shown below; "Indian Bolio" - was a great head fighter. He could stay out of trouble while he dished out some heavy punishment to his opponents head. "Bolio" was lightning fast and a strong skilful fighter and was able to control his opponent. He would lean on his foe and once it was tired and weakened, he would move from the head to the throat. In rolls he could handle dogs of any size with ease. He was bred by Maurice Carver, raised by Norman Hooten and won a great match for Bennet Clayton and Floyd Boudreaux. Floyd handled and conditioned him for the match against a dog called "Rowdy". "Rowdy" was a real killer, but "Bolio" was even better and beat "Rowdy" in one hour and fifty-two minutes He received a Best In Show award in a fourteen fight convention. "Bolio" loved to fight and when he saw his opponent he would scream like something from hell, wagging his tail every moment of the competition. He sired four Journal Champions, and four more Champions which were never recognised. "Bolio" sired two R. O. M. dogs, Patrick's "Bull Boy Bob" and Patrick's "Red Baby". He was the Grand-sire of two others, Boyle's "Dirty Mary" and "Homer". Stinson & Glover's famous five-time winner "Tuffy" and his four-time winning brother "Dolemite" were grandsons of "Bolio". "Bolio" was sired by Pit Ace "Zeke" and his dam was Carver's "Goldie". Tombstone - Pat Patrick purchased "Tombstone" from Don Mayfield after he had come from behind to win a match against "Bullyson Jnr.". It was discovered that "Tombstone" had heart-worms when he arrived at Patrick's yard and consequently was only bred eight or nine times, and hired five or six times as a stud. When bred to "Red Baby" he produced Champion "Snubby", Champion "Crash" and Champion "Tonka". When bred to Champion "Catfish" some more very good dogs, including Grand Champion "Hope" "Tombstone" was bred by Don Maloney. His sire was "Toot" who in turn was sired by Tudor's "Spike" out of Carver's "Black Widow". "Red Baby" - was in the first litter that Pat Patrick raised out of "Bolio". She was an extremely game bitch and was almost killed in a kennel fight, and still scratched hard at the end of it. "Red Baby" was the dam to three Champions, all sired by the "Tombstone" dog and delivered many other game dogs during her time, establishing herself as one of Patrick's foundation dogs. "Bull Boy Bob" - was a hard tested dog that had won a good match in one hour and thirty minutes. He had many good litter brothers and sisters, including Champion "Dragon". "Bull Boy Bob" was a typical "Bolio" dog, with bags of talent, gameness, good wind and a talent for fighting the head of his opponents. One of his best sons was Champion "Bobby Jnr." "Homer" - was bred by Mr Romero of California. His dam was a pure Clouse bitch called "Cricket" and his sire was an inbred son of "Bolio" called "El Dos Bits Cortaro". "Homer" was purchased from Gene Wright after he had campaigned him to two wins. His two wins were at thirty pounds and both of his opponents were picked up at around the twenty minute mark. He proved to be an exceptional stud dog, but differed from the typical head-fighting "Bolio" dogs, in that he could fight on the head, but was mainly a hard biting chest and front leg dog. |
