DOG BREEDS BEGINNING WITH "K"
[Keeshond], [Kerry Blue Terrier]
KEESHOND
Originating in Holland from around the
beginning of the 16th Century, early ancestors of the Keeshond were used as
companions and guard dogs on Dutch barges. They then made the transition to
dry land and were adopted by home and landowners as guard dogs and vermin
exterminators. They are named after a Dutch politician and are one of the
most popular Spitz breeds throughout Europe and North America.
The average life expectancy for a
Keeshond is 12 to 14 years, with a weight range of 55-65lbs and standing
between 17" and 20" at the shoulder. |
KERRY BLUE TERRIER
Originating in the Republic of Ireland
from around the beginning of the 19th Century, the breed was officially
recognised in 1922. The Kerry Blue Terrier is the national dog of Ireland
and was developed hunting Badgers, Foxes and vermin. It's thought that the
breed may have some common ancestry with other larger Terrier breeds
including the Irish Terrier, Airedale Terrier, etc.
The average life expectancy for a
Kerry Blue Terrier is 12 to 14 years, with a weight range of 35-45lbs and
standing between 18" and 20" at the shoulder. |
